The Ocmulgee Indian Mounds are located near a fall line. This allowed the natives to benefit from two different types of environments. The water from the river was useful for traveling, fishing, drinking etc. and the woods were important for the hunting and gathering that the natives would have thrived off of. The natives had several different types of mounds constructed for their well being and traditions. Ceremonial, household, and lookout mounds still remain from this culture long gone. The signs of progress, sadly have cut into this historical area. The railroad built here is the reason scientists discovered this plot of land to be of importance to the natives.
